Our summaries are orientation, not substitution. Members should read the underlying work, examine methods and limitations, and resist the professional temptation to turn a qualified finding into a universal commandment.

Higher and lower loads produced broadly similar hypertrophy in the included literature, while higher loads produced greater improvements in maximal and isometric strength. The goal determines what ‘optimal’ means.

Across 49 studies, protein supplementation modestly enhanced gains in strength and fat-free mass during prolonged resistance training. The analysis identified an estimated intake breakpoint near 1.6 g/kg/day for additional fat-free-mass benefit.
